Book Review: Dior in Bloom

Book Review: Dior in Bloom

This breath-takingly beautiful book, put together by Justine Picardie, the former editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country, is a must for anyone who loves Christian Dior, flowers or fashion in general: it won’t fail to delight. Florals played a role in both Dior’s perfume and fashion, with the designer finding inspiration in the heady evening scents of southern France and the verdant gardens of his childhood home in Normandy, among others.

They inspired both the legendary 1940s New Look and his blossom-like ballgowns bearing pretty floral motifs. This exquisite volume features rose portraits by fashion photographer Nick Knight, known for his work for Vogue, alongside previously unpublished archival documents, stunning details of embroidery and fabrics, and fashion sketches and photographs. There are also charming pictures of Dior in his garden, both as adult and child.
