Malakoff’s French Connection Festival at the Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park in Nevada City

French miners here developed the largest, most renowned hydraulic mining operation of the 19th century – they named it Malakoff after the Battle of Malakoff in the Crimean War, in which the French were victorious over the Russians. The festival commemorates it all with food, French-themed music and pétanque.
