French Festival and Bastille Day Celebration in Washington
Enjoy a variety of activities during this French Festival & Bastille Day celebration at the elegant and gracious Hillwood Estate. The event offers baroque musicians and dancers in period costume, a Parisian-style cafe, and French language story time by the Alliance Francaise de Washington. New this year, the festivities of French court come to life in a short play, and you’ll meet strolling French nobles, all performed by the Happenstance Theater. In addition, the permanent collection of 18th century decorative arts and the extensive gardens are available for viewing.
Hillwood is the former residence of philanthropist and collector Marjorie Merriweather Post, and is known for its collection of 18th and 19th century French art, Fabergé eggs, and decorative arts from the House of Romanov. The grounds offer thirteen acres of gardens, including a formal French parterre, a rose garden, and paths to stroll along the Friendship Walk.
