1 – Rocamadour – The Vertical Village

Rocamadour is situated in central France and often referred to as ‘The Vertical Village’ due to its dramatic cliff top and cliff face location. Poised high on the top of a mountain, this village really needs to be seen to be believed. Rocamadour itself is quaint but the views it offers are nothing short of spectacular. With many sacred, religious buildings at the heart of the village, there’s lots of history to see and explore. Rocamadour is also home to its resident Barbary Apes that add to the unique experience. You can relax and enjoy a ride to the top on the Petite Train. If you’re travelling in September, then try to time your visit with the Hot Air Balloon Festival that sets off from the foot of the ‘Sacred City’.
