New in Paris: Yves Saint-Laurent Museum Opening Soon

It was the great designer’s wish to be remembered as “an artist that created a body of work”. To the delight of fashionistas everywhere, the artist’s wish will be fulfilled with the opening of the new Yves Saint-Laurent Museum in Paris [1].

For the inaugural exhibit, the magnificent historical mansion at 5 rue Marceau, home of the Pierre Bergé Foundation, will present 50 original Saint-Laurent haute-couture creations accompanied by sketches, videos and photographs to immerse visitors in the idiosyncratic designer’s universe. Exhibits will be renewed regularly to an exciting schedule of retrospective and thematic shows.

The opening is made all the more poignant as sadly Pierre Bergé, great patron of the arts and companion of Yves Saint Laurent with whom he founded the couture house in 1961, died on September 8, just weeks before the inauguration.

Their spirit lives on in the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, the first museum of this scale dedicated to the work of one of the 20th century’s greatest couturiers to open in the capital of fashion. The opening coincides with the inauguration of the musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, located near the Jardin Majorelle in a city that was so close to his heart.

Opening October 3. Website: www.museeyslparis.com [2]
