Coffee table tome publishers Taschen are always on-trend when it comes to chic places to stay, eat and shop, and few cities better deserve the chunky ‘style bible’ treatment than Paris. The author, Taschen’s very own Angelika, who’s edited and published books of grand standing among the cultural elite for more than 25 years, pointedly notes herein that although Paris may be the city of love, it’s also the centre of fashion, perfume, chocolate, Champagne and oysters!

Many of the places featured herein, such as the Four Seasons Hotel George V or the Chanel boutique, aren’t for the weak of wallet. But that’s not the point – it’s all about the dream. So although you may never make an appointment to have your hair coiffed by that follicular titivator to the chic, David Mallett, a voyeur’s gawp around his rue Notre Dame des Victoires salon – which boasts taxidermy peacocks and an ostrich – will have you swooning.

In addition to presenting the City of Lights in fittingly glitzy splendour, replete with superb photography and metallic paper stock, this beautiful second edition of Taschen’s Paris also provides such user-friendly features as cut-out tabs to aid navigation and a glossy, laminated, pull-out map pinpointing all the featured shopping, eating and hotel hotspots.
