The Ghost Riders of Ordebec
Copies of the latest policier by author Fred Vargas (pseudonym of Frédérique Audoin-Rouzeau, French historian and archaeologist) arrive with reassuring regularity on the France Today doormat. Not only is Vargas prolific with her crime thriller output but clearly her main protagonist, the estimable Commissaire Adamsberg, has an unremittingly heavy caseload of murder and mayhem. This latest episode is a typically enjoyable page-turner that kicks off when an old woman is found waiting for Adamsberg at his station in Paris with tales of murder and ghostly horsemen in her native Normandy. Never one to turn down an intriguing story, off our detective heads in search of the truth behind these frightful legends. A great vacation read.
