Unless you buy one of Yann-Arthus Bertrand’s aerial photography books, or put your nose to the plane window each time you take off or land at a French airport, you won’t get much of a bird’s eye view when it comes to the country’s beautiful monuments, coastlines and villages. But here’s where this excellent app – a collaborative effort by National Geographic and Fotopedia – can help.

In addition to the predictably eye-popping images – from l’Aiguille du Midi to Mont-Saint-Michel, the castles of the Loire Valley to the rooftops of Paris – there are navigation tags, social media share buttons, instant slide shows, wallpapers and a “Trip Builder” to create your own virtual or real tours. We give it a ‘high’ five!
