“More than an impression – an immersion!” Founded in 1986, the Alliance Française of Rouen-Normandie combines high-quality French learning with a great destination.
Normandy, with its exceptional geographical location, extending to the English Channel and gateway to the European cities of Paris and London, welcomes you with open arms year-round! Awarded 2019 Best Travel Destination by Lonely Planet, Normandy offers 600 kilometres of coastline, villages classified amongst the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”, fabulous countryside and UNESCO World Heritage listed sites including Mont-Saint-Michel.
A genuine living museum and the capital of Normandy, Rouen is a haven of peace for locals and visitors, delighting them with its half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets and Gothic churches. Nicknamed the “City of 100 steeples”, Rouen was the scene of the martyrdom of Joan of Arc, condemned, then burned to death in 1431 at Place du Vieux Marché. 2019 is the year to visit for the arrival of ships from all over the world to sail up the River Seine during the 30th Rouen Armada, which is held every four to six years and draws millions of spectators.
Ideally situated in the historic heart of Rouen, two minutes from the railway station and the Museum of Fine Arts, the Alliance Française provides unique access to French language and culture. It belongs to the international network of Alliances Françaises and as such, aims to teach French as a foreign language and to promote francophone cultures by fostering cultural exchanges. Housed in a heritage building, Alliance Française Rouen hosts more than 1200 students annually, representing 70 different nationalities. It offers both short and extended programmes of general and specialist French throughout the year.
Alliance Française courses are taught by highly qualified, experienced teachers. The school has been awarded the Qualité FLE accreditation by the French Government. This award identifies, recognises and promotes institutions teaching French as a foreign language whose linguistic products and services are quality assured.
The school is accessible by public transport. You can then take full advantage of this city, known for its picturesque charm, its art de vivre and its cultural dynamism. The team will support you throughout your linguistic stay, offering you the best: teaching adapted to your needs and centred on communication skills taught by qualified and experienced teachers. Additionally, you are offered a stay with carefully selected host families or in independent studios or apartments. There are also cultural and social activities designed to explore the city and region. These include French gourmet speciality tastings, workshops on impressionist painting or French cuisine led by professionals, nights out and events for both teachers and students.
Admire Mont Saint-Michel bay, contemplate the water lilies in Monet’s gardens at Giverny, climb the Etretat cliffs, stroll along the beautiful pedestrian streets in the centre of Rouen, discover Auguste Perret’s modern urbanism in Le Havre, go to the market at Honfleur, attend the Deauville American Film Festival…AND learn French at the Alliance Française of Rouen!
