3 New Wine Courses at Château de Pommard in Burgundy

New Wine Experiences to teach consumers the professional secrets of tasting, pairing and selecting wines.

The historic Château de Pommard was founded in 1726 by Vivant Micault, secretary to King Louis XV, and after 300 years remains one of the most coveted producers of wine in the Burgundy region. The 20 hectare plot is the largest producer of Pinot Noir vines in the  Côte d’Or and is protected by UNESCO status as a Climat of Burgundy, given its rich history as an institution to France and lovers of wine. In 2014 the domain was bought by the Carabello-Baum family of San Francisco, who have transformed the estate into a place of discovery and learning for wine tourists. Today Château de Pommard offers a number of experiences to the public which enable you to dive into the world of viticulture and taste the history of Burgundy.

From the 29th of May the château will offer three new wine courses to learn how to get the most out of the wine you buy, from what best to serve it with, and how to prepare it. The experiences have been created by the domain’s new Director of Wine Education Vanessa Guebels, and come in three tiers. The first is the Tasting Experience, where guests will learn in just 45 minutes the WSET systematic method for professional tasting and gain the confidence in describing wines using the language of professional sommeliers.

One step above is the Climats Experience, which lasts 60 minutes, teaches the guests the history of the villages and different domains in Burgundy; here you will learn the true meaning of terroir, and why bottles from these small plots fetch such large prices on the international market. The premium course is the Gourmet Experience, where over 90 minutes you will be taken on a virtual tour of the world, pairing wines with cuisines from a multitude of different countries. This workshop, hosted by WSET trained Wine Advisors, was developed by Ms. Guebels and Château de Pommard’s award-winning winemakers to encourage a methodical approach to food and wine pairing.

On the unveiling of the new courses, Ms Guebels stated that:

The opportunity to combine the unparalleled wine knowledge in Burgundy with consumer experiences is a wine educator’s dream of a lifetime. With the launch of these new Wine Experiences, when somebody leaves the domain they do so with precise knowledge about grape varietals, tasting methods and the winemaking and food pairing  techniques that professionals around the world rely upon.”

The new Wine Experiences can be reserved online, by phone or through Château de Pommard’s travel, tourism and hotel partners. Book now at www.chateaudepommard.com.
