France Today at the Plaza Athénée in Paris

France Today is honored to have an expert team of journalists reporting for the magazine. Crisscrossing the hexagon, our contributors get the skinny on what’s new and exciting in France– from a restaurant opening in Provence and a thrilling attraction in the Alps to the latest museum in Paris (bonjour, Frank Gehry!).

Our contributors recently gathered at the Hotel Plaza Athénée for a Parisian soirée to fête the magazine. Newly renovated, the hotel has a striking design: Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku were responsible for the glam interiors for Alain Ducasse’s restaurant, while Marie-José Pommereau designed the elegant new guest rooms. The idea? To reposition the Plaza Athénée among the palace hotels as the “haute couture” destination.

Craft cocktails, dreamt up by Bar Director Thierry Hernandez, are served in bespoke Murano tumblers with a white marshmallow “lid.” The crew fell head over heels for the Rose Royale, made with Champagne and fresh raspberries, and the Master #2, a clever mix of Hendrick’s Gin, elderflower, cucumber, lime, and aloe vera. After 11 pm, the city’s trendsetters flock to the bar for the DJ-spun soundtrack and happening vibe.
