Madeleine Peyroux

Madeleine Peyroux

Long before anyone heard of Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux became a phenomenon with her 1996 debut Dreamland, a haunting session that blurred distinctions between jazz, blues and country music. Possessing a voice eerily reminiscent of Billie Holiday, Peyroux seemed poised for international fame, but instead she disappeared from view. When she resurfaced eight years later with Careless Love, her wistful, ache-filled sound had only deepened. On 2006’s gorgeous Half the Perfect World she brings her inimitable behind-the-beat phrasing to songs by Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. While still elusive, Peyroux now seems more inclined to stick around and share her singular sound. Don’t miss this chance to hear new material from Peyroux’s new Rounder release, Bare Bones.
