A Top Address Near Rochefort: Les Jardins du Lac

Just a few miles outside the historic port town of Rochefort, Les Jardins du Lac is a treasured address in Poitou-Charentes. Locals are quick to list the restaurant as one of the best gastronomic experiences in the region, and the fact that you can spend the night means that the property is an ideal stop-over when travelling along the Atlantic coast between Nantes and Bordeaux. But a word of warning: you may just find yourself extending your stay for a few more days of rest and relaxation.

The hotel is a member of Relais du Silence hotels, which—as the name implies—is a collection of charming properties where guests are immersed in calm. Overlooking the Lac de Bois Fleuri, the Jardins du Lac is surrounded by gardens that are carefully landscaped with water features and flower beds. There are only 16 rooms, decorated in a contemporary style with all the creature comforts, and each equipped with a balcony or terrace overlooking the lake.

No matter what day of the week, the restaurant is quite busy, as it’s renowned as one of the best tables for regional terroir-inspired cuisine. (Michelin has recognized it as a Bib Gourmand, meaning you can eat very well without breaking the bank. At Les Jardins du Lac, menus start from 36 euros).

After lunch, take a stroll on one of the walking trails, or go for a swim in the pool. In the colder months, a fire is lit in the lounge, creating a lovely ambience that’s only enhanced by the warm and gracious hospitality of the staff.

Les Jardins du Lac, 3 Chemin de Fontchaude, 17250 Trizay, France, Tel: +33 5 46 82 03 56. Rooms from 145 euros per night.
