Win a Reproduction of Simone De Beauvoir’s ‘Rescued’ Manuscript Worth $232 (US Entrants Only)

We’re offering one lucky reader the chance to win a reproduction of the original manuscript of De Beauvoir’s seminal feminist text, The Second Sex..

❋ A precious window into the pioneering philosopher’s thought process and ground-breaking manifesto, the manuscript, published by SP Books, weaves together both handwritten and typed drafts of the first volume of The Second Sex (Facts and Myths) – long thought to have been lost or discarded by the author.

❋ A perfectionist, De Beauvoir would rewrite entire passages again and again, throwing away mounds of drafts in the process. Unbeknown to her, curious friends and guests routinely fished out and pocketed these early versions of The Second Sex. After her death in 1986, many of these carefully salvaged drafts and documents sprang up at auctions in France, Germany and the United States. Following an extensive search, they have now been compiled for the very first time in this ‘rescued’ manuscript.

❋ The manuscript is bookended by a foreword by Sylvie Le Bon de Beauvoir, the feminist icon’s adopted daughter and a philosophy professor in her own right, and an afterword by Goncourt Prize winner and women’s rights campaigner Leïla Slimani.
