Where to head now in Marseille is Rhizome- Les Raciones Du Goût, the six-month-old epicurean concept. Designed as a loft duplex, the art gallery/retail boutique is redefining the future of food culture on Corniche Kennedy just 15 minutes from the Port Vieux along the Mediterranean Sea.
Dapper chef and entrepreneur José Potier is a gentleman of creation, with exemplary taste and an obsession with fine products. Rhizome- Les Racines Bon Goût is a fun place with a sense of humour. There’s a refined array of epicurean specialties and an excellent wine cellar with bottles ranging from seven euros to 300 euros. There is also a retail boutique, wine bar, and restaurant- a jewel box of an eatery.
Corniche Kennedy, the famous Marseille boulevard, has been renovated and is chock full of boutiques and bars. Tucked among them just 100 metres from the sea, Rhizome has a multi-use ambiance, and shows off its comfortable yet elegant décor of woods, coupled with the palette of natural vanilla hues.
You’ll find twists on modern classic French cuisine, such as smoked salmon and caviar, France’s best cheeses and of course stunning Provençal classics. An affordable luxury I can assure you.
The second floor restaurant, with cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, resembles an art gallery loft typical of Montmarte, Paris or Manhattan’s Tribeca or Soho, London. It provides an upscale gastronomic experience. You can even choose a product from the épicerie downstairs, and the chef will cook it up for you. During warmer sunnier days, there is a lovely outdoor café and it is quite heavenly coupled with friendly regulars.
The spectacular carte which is certainly varied and can be ordered in appetizer sized portions or main courses includes: Foie gras; Crevettes Royal; Gravlax; Fresh Oysters; Salads of the Day based on seasonal availability; Seasonal Mushrooms and Truffles; Pasta and / or Risotto of the Day; Fresh Mussels Served in French Tradition with white wine; Fresh Clams; Regional Quiches and Omelettes; Caviar and Roe tasting platters; Canapès. With advance notice, private business and personal event parties can be catered on the premises.
