Los Angeles: The Spectacular Art of Jean-Léon Gérôme

This summer will mark the premiere of the Los Angeles Getty Museum’s “first major monographic exhibition of Gérôme in nearly forty years.” From June 15 to September 12, the Getty will host a number of works spanning the career of the 19th-century painter and sculptor Jean-Léon Gérôme.

The exhibition will include examples of Gérôme’s early “néo-grec” (neo-Grecian) paintings, as well as his later and more popular historical and Oriental works. Near the end of his career, with the advent of photography, Gérôme expanded his vision, and the Getty will also feature photos depicting his life, as well as some that may have served to inspire him.
