La Nuit des Musées

La Nuit des Musées

Tomorrow night marks the 5th edition of “La Nuit des Musées” or Museum Night in Europe. For one night only 2,200 museums in Europe, half of them in France alone, will open their doors for free from sundown until roughly 1 am. The event, which was started in 1999 by the French ministry of culture and communication, began in France and has grown to include more than 40 European countries since 2005. The original goal of the event was to attract a younger generation to museums that they may not ordinarily have the chance to visit, however last year the event attracted over 1 million people of all ages, from all over the world.

In honor of “La Nuit des Musées” many venues put on special programs to welcome new visitors. This year, art lovers who visit the Rodin Museum will be given a torch to admire the sculptor’s masterpieces in pitch darkness. There will also be a giant card game held in various languages at the New National Museum of the History of Immigration in the French Capital. Also, swing by the Louvre to watch big-screen documentaries on art history all night long.
