Gounod’s <i> Mireille </i> at the Paris Opera

Opening the 2009-2010 opera season, the Paris Opera’s first-ever production of Charles Gounod’s Mireille, based on Provencal poet Frédéric Mistral’s epic poem of star-crossed love, conducted by Marc Minkowski and staged by the Opera’s new managing director Nicolas Joel. Albanian-born French soprano Inva Mula takes the title role, American tenor Charles Castronovo is her beloved. A highly anticipated production, advertised across Paris with posters proclaiming “Enfin Mireille” (“Mireille at last”). Not to be missed.
