Black Carpet Looks: Paule Ka

Black carpet looks

When Serge Cajfinger launched French fashion label Paule Ka in 1987 he said he based his designs on the “timeless elegance” of legendary Hollywood style icons, and he is still channeling the influence of Audrey, Grace and Marilyn today. Contemporary actresses such as Emilie Dequenne and Twilight star Kristen Stewart have taken to wearing Paule Ka at awards ceremonies of late, and spring 2010 sees the launch of Cajfinger’s limited-edition Black Carpet collection of twenty couture-style dresses perfect for slinking up the steps at Cannes, now on display at the brand’s flagship store in the rue Saint Honoré. Standouts include a scarlet satin minidress embellished with an oversize bow and a full-length off-the-shoulder number in sophisticated silk crepe. Those whose budgets don’t stretch to the €690—€2,450 price tags should explore the more accessibly priced Paule Ka collection for the fashionable French mail-order catalog La Redoute (laredoute.fr). The 1960s-inspired looks on offer include cropped denim jackets, jaunty pedal pushers, two-tone strapless dresses and adorable frocks for budding fashionistas aged 2 to 11.
