At France Today we’ve been inspiring our readers in all aspects of French culture for three decades. Our long love affair with France has resulted in literally thousands of articles, exploring the milieu that makes this country, in our minds, the most romantic, the most artistic, and the most beautiful in the world.

This year we decided to go a step further, inviting our readers on our very own tours of our favourite areas of France, using the insider knowledge we’ve gathered over the years to provide an off-the beaten-track experience. We want to show you the France we fell in love with, away from the busy tourist traps which feature on other tours. In short, we wanted to create tours that even an old French local would give the nod of approval. Maybe even a quiet ‘c’est bon.’

And now we invite you to join us, with a choice of six different areas of France, in different seasons. From the Languedoc-Roussillon in Spring; wandering down to French Catalonia and the Vermillion Coast, to Summer in Provence; strolling through village markets and learning the secrets of historic vineyards. Over the course of 8 days we’ll be eating in some of the best restaurants in France, in the some of the most breath-taking locations in the world.

We are pleased to announce that after so much enthusiasm for our tours we are offering a limited spaces offer, giving you $500 off any of our tours per couple. So whether it’s on the banks of the Dordogne River, or atop the rolling hills of a Provencal vineyard, we’ll be eagerly awaiting your arrival, a glass of champagne in hand.

Springtime Southern France

Carcassonne © Freesurf / Fotolia

This Southwestern region of France, often referred to as “the other Provence”, Languedoc-Roussillon and now Occitanie, stretches from the Rhone river to the Pyrenées mountains, and along the Mediterranean sea. Our tour kicks off in the magical medieval walled city of Carcassonne, staying in a luxury hotel in the fortified walls of the castle. We’ll try our hand at winemaking in an award winning Château, followed by a cellar tour and tasting with an expert sommelier. Dinner that evening will be at the 2 Michelin starred Le Parc Franck Putelat. Next we’ll head down to the Catalonian coast, where we’ll follow in the footsteps of the Fauvian artists, sampling the delights of this Franco-Spanish region.

No region in France epitomizes the country more than the Dordogne, also known as the Périgord. It is a land of dense oak forests, slow flowing rivers, medieval villages and chateaux everywhere. We’ll glide along the Dordogne River in an open-top boat, picnicking on the banks with a hamper of the region’s finest delicacies. A visit to the ancient caves of Lascaux, showing cave paintings from the Cro-Magnon man, will be followed by an atmospheric dinner surrounded by waterways and watermills, in the “Venice of the Périgord”.
