As far as holiday destinations go it doesn’t get any better than the Bordeaux and Champagne regions of France. Lovers of fine wine and cycling can easily combine their passions here. Boat Bike Tours offers two 8-day tours during which you will either cycle trough the Bordeaux wine region with all of its grand highlights or through the famous Champagne domain.

In and around Bordeaux

In the South West of France lies the largest wine area in the world. In this sun-drenched area, with an always pleasant breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, Boat Bike Tours offers a route that takes you through the sloping countryside and little villages, medieval towns such as Cadillac and Pauillac, past castles and vineyards and across ancient pilgrim paths. The city of Bordeaux is a real gem, full of architecture such as the famous Pont de Pierre and Place de la Bourse.

Between Paris and Epernay

This trip is a tour-cycling classic that not only allows guests to explore the world-famous city of Paris, but also the Champagne region. The route is mouth-watering: the best wines and champagnes as well as the famous Brie are produced in this region. The delicious sparkling wines are the only ones in the world entitled to bear the name ‘Champagne’. Besides the relaxing wine activities a certain amount of effort is also required: the daily cycling distances range from 30 to 50 kilometers (18-30 miles), partly on country roads, unpaved roads in hilly terrain with heights of up to 350 meters.

Your accommodation

You will stay in a double or twin cabin with air-conditioning aboard the imposing ship ‘Bordeaux’ or in the cozy ‘Zwaantje’. Both well-known for their service and hospitality. Accommodation aboard a ship is what makes these tours so special: you sleep in the same comfortable bed every night but with a different view every day. And don’t forget the tantalizing culinary specialties of the chefs on board. Enjoy regional dishes prepared with fresh ingredients every day, accompanied by a wide range of wines from the region.

Independent or guided

The bike tours can be taken at your leisure: you will set off with detailed route descriptions and should you need to, the tour guide is available to call for assistance. Alternatively you can go on a guided tour: cycling with a tour guide in a group of up to 20 people (extra €200 p.p.). The tour guide knows the area like the back of his hand, he takes you to the best spots and informs you of many interesting facts and fun stories.
