Where to Stay in the Latin Quarter: Hotel Des Grands Hommes

Set in the Quartier Latin in the heart of historic, artistic Paris, Hotel Des Grands Hommes is a beautiful hideaway in an 18th century building opposite the Pantheon. Once called home by one of the founders of the Surrealist movement, André Breton, Hotel Des Grands Homme is a three-star property, though in my book, it’s easily a four-star hotel!

The Hotel Des Grands Hommes exudes style and perfectly captures Paris as it would have been enjoyed in times gone by. The décor has been featured in numerous style guides, films and photo shoots and its location is fantastic.

All rooms are decorated in the Empire style and boast modern comforts such as free Wifi, a flat screen TV, a safe and AC. Breakfast is served in the converted cellar which exudes character; for no extra charge you can enjoy breakfast in your room. All the products are fresh and locally sourced, apart from the ‘tasty plate’ where items like Ossau-Iraty cheese, dried ham and sausage from the Aldudes valley all originate from the southwest of France.

This is an ideal base from which to explore the Left Bank and the Latin Quarter. You can walk to Notre-Dame and the Seine in around 15 minutes and the Jardin de Luxembourg is a mere 300m away from the hotel, not to mention the Pantheon!

You’re also spoilt for choice for cafés, brasseries and restaurants; the iconic rue Mouffetard is a 5 minute walk away. When it comes to hunting down excellent restaurants, I’m like a wild boar searching for a truffle. In this neighbourhood, I was in heaven. Bon appétit!
