Imagine spending the night directly on Place Saint-Sulpice, the square in Saint-Germain-des-Prés whose church—gloriously restored—played a starring role in The Da Vinci Code. Sandwiched between the Odéon and Boulevard Saint Germain, this is some of the most expensive real estate in Paris. Tucked into the square is a bijou of a boutique that has a devoted following of repeat guests. Step inside and you’ll understand why: Hotel Récamier is a coveted address that oozes quiet luxury.
Hotelier Sylvie de Lattre has the magic touch with her Parisian boutique hotels. After successfully launching Hôtel Verneuil, she went on to open Hôtel Thérèse, before finding the perfect property, a real “Sleeping Beauty,” to renovate into the Hotel Récamier. (The name Récamier comes from Madame Récamier, a 19th century beauty and muse of many writers and politicians, who was famous in literary circles).
Sylvie de Lattre enlisted talented designer Jean Louis Deniot to decorate Hotel Récamier’s 24 rooms, each in an individual style. The result is an eclectic mélange of 20th century decorative styles, with each floor themed with a different colour palette.
You’ll find careful attention to detail with the custom décor and accessories in the rooms: Egyptian cotton towels and bathrobes, Loewe flat screen tv with iPod dock, perfect lighting, free wifi, and toiletries by Fragonard.
This is mirrored in the staff’s thoughtful attention to each guest. (Need a special restaurant recommendation? A car to the airport? No request is too small.) A highlight of a stay at Hotel Récamier is the complimentary Afternoon tea served in the lounge, which opens onto a landscaped courtyard covered with an arbor.
