This charming manor house and park nestles on the edge of the quiet village of Cry-sur-Armancon, with its beautiful church, bridge and tree lined river which borders the park. It really is a paradise for both adults and children.
There is a hint of magic as you enter the park through its nineteenth century gates. You could almost spend your whole holiday exploring the grounds which are bordered by the wooded banks of the river Armancon on which you can picnic, fish, row the boat and even cross to your own small island. Added features are the new hard tennis court in the old orchard, the tall avenue of chestnut trees, the walled garden, the ancient stone wood house and pigeonnier, and the Gate House. The heated pool is set in a sun trap on the terrace close to the house. It is all now enclosed, to protect small children, with a clematis covered fence. There is a hot shower and changing space by the pool and a large open covered area with a fridge and barbecue where you can sit and eat. There are plenty of deck chairs, sun-beds and teak garden furniture.
All of this combined with our wonderful cook (optional in low season) and helpful maids/babysitters who live in the adjoining village make La Maison du Chateau the perfect place to have a holiday.
The House consists of an 18th century Manor House and its beautifully converted Barn that together can sleep a total of 16+ people. It is the perfect place for a holiday for all the family or a group of friends.
The Main House (sleeps 12+)
The Main House sleeps 14 people comfortably in seven double bedrooms all with their own bathrooms. It is excellent for smaller as well as larger parties.
The three principal double bedrooms (which can also be twin), each with own bath, shower and WC face west across the park. In the East wing are two further double bedrooms (one can also be twin) each with their own large bathrooms. In the attic there is a new double room with ensuite shower and WC. Downstairs, looking onto the courtyard, is an additional double or twin bedroom with its own shower and WC.
Barn Rooms (sleeps 4+) and Music Rooms
(Please note the the Barn Rooms are never let independently of the Main House)
In this adjacent barn above the stables we have created a large studio cum music room and two more double (or twin) en-suite bedrooms. The studio room has tall French windows looking westwards over the pool and park with an elegant balcony and stone staircase leading down to the pool. It has a grand piano, large central table, and simple sofas and chairs; and it is possible to sleep extra guests/children here but only by arrangement.
We have a lovely cook whose services are included in the rental (optional in low season). We strongly recommend her. She is exceptionally good and the service is excellent value for a really relaxing carefree holiday. Whether it be for a wonderful buffet lunch, picnic by the river, children’s supper or a four course meal in the evening, she does all the cooking and shopping for you during your stay at La Maison du Chateau. We supply you with her suggested menus and shopping lists to help you decide what you would like. You can either discuss it with her direct or we can make all the arrangements for you. Please apply to us for further details.
On arrival the rooms will be ready with beds made up, clean towels and fresh flowers according to season. When appropriate the drawing room log fire will be lit to welcome you. The maids are very flexible and happy to give you extra help with any of the following, which can be discussed with them when you arrive.
With the exception of Peak Season, maid service is optional for smaller parties, but most of our guests choose to employ the services of our maids. They do all the cleaning, bed making, laundry, preparing and clearing away breakfast and assisting the cook, at meal times. See Availability and Prices for costs. Personal laundry, babysitting and child-minding (in English) can all be arranged at extra cost.
(French) Guardian / Gardener
The house, park, swimming pool and tennis court are all maintained by the guardian free of charge. The guardian is an excellent handyman and takes care of any household maintenance problems.
Organised Holidays at La Maison du Chateau
La Maison du Chateau is the perfect place to hold specialist holidays. Because of the space available in the grounds as well as the large number the house can sleep (22 people), it is ideal for gathing together groups of people. So far, we have had groups enjoy painting holidays, wine weeks, pilates and cycling holidays. We are hoping in the future to organise yoga, bridge and french speaking holidays.
