Paris Renaissance: Hôtel Jules

In a colorful corner of the 9th arrondissement, not far from the Opéra Garnier and the major department stores, Hôtel Jules is a breath of fresh air on the Paris hotel scene. A stunning renovation of a vintage hotel, the Jules is the work of owner Grace Leo, already known for transforming the Montalembert, Lancaster and Bel-Ami, in collaboration with designers Tristan Auer and Frédéric Sicard. No chilly “design” decor here: rooms are warmly inviting, in colors ranging from sky blue to bittersweet orange, red and chocolate; huge windows are draped with voluptuously thick velvet, and jewel-toned tapestry pillows add color to sofas and chairs. Whimsical touches include small white wall sculptures of curvy lips in every room, modern red-topped vanities with sectional mirrors and grandmotherly walnut headboards and armoires. Six junior suites sport 1970s-style zebra-patterned rugs and lamp bases made of magnum wine bottles.
