Re-creation of the Villa Arpel
Salute to Tati
July 1, 2009
In conjunction with the Jacques Tati exhibit currently at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris (until Aug 3), top design furniture company Domeau & Pérès has produced a new, limited edition of furniture based on the beloved French comic actor's classic, Academy Award-winning 1958 film Mon Oncle. Set in the colorful and wackily futuristic Villa Arpel, the film pits Tati's ingenuous signature character Monsieur Hulot against an automated new world of status-seeking consumer gadgetry. As colorful as the film's originals, the Domeau & Pérès Tati collection includes Monsieur Arpel's canary-yellow leather rocking chair, Monsieur Hulot's emerald-green kidney-shaped sofa, Madame Arpel's green double-cylinder sofa and a white porcelain Tati vase by designer Michel Lucotte. website
